MEDIA RELEASE

2MUSE PRODUCTIONS

Younghee Park as the MC with Tom as cousin Max

A Sunshine Coast theatre group is breaking new ground with its latest production to be staged as part of the Anywhere Theatre Festival in May.  2Muse Productions has re-energised the traditional fairytale format to tell a spellbinding story called Epiphany, with young people working alongside local and international professional artists.

Younghee Park and Pak Hoyoung are performance artists from Korea who have extensive experience in physical theatre and performing for young people, but this is the first production they have worked on where they are both performing themselves while also mentoring young performers. They are working with the project organisers, Sunshine Coast’s own youth theatre directors, Mary Eggleston and Sue Davis to devise and shape this original performance piece.  The production crosses over artforms as well with input from video artist James Muller (of Earthbase Productions) and local musician and performer, Simon Russell-Baker.

Young performers hail from Caloundra to Cooroy and they have been working for months to create characters drawn from circus, vaudeville and freak shows.  The show was originally staged in a début performance in November 2011 at the SCAIP Black Box Theatre in Nambour but with the support of RADF funding has been totally reworked to showcase the talents of the young people and the Korean guest artists.

The show centres on the tale of young Queenie D, an Alice in Wonderland type character who is drawn into a fantastical new world that exists beyond the mirror.  The cast have been developing a unique physical language for the production and have been exploring new media and old with the performance featuring digital imagery using iPad Apps.

The show is the first Sunshine Coast production to be staged as part of the south-east Queensland based Anywhere Theatre Festival.  This is running for the second time in 2012 and is a unique festival in that the parameters for shows is that they can be performed anywhere but a theatre.

Where & When?

Epiphany will be performed at the Sunshine Coast School of Photography and Creative Arts, 13 Railway St, Yandina on the 12th, 13th and 19th of May. The show starts at 7:30pm and there will be 5pm matinees on May 13 and 19 as well.  Tickets $22/$17 concession.

Epiphany photoshoot

Epiphany will be a show to remember

Of course we all loove to play dress-ups, but there was more to our fun and games photoshoot than that!  As we are devising a new work, finding a physical expression for each character has really helped shape them and give us ideas for the next stage of the process.  We also now have a wonderful bank of imagery to draw on for promoting our show.  More soon!

Creative process in action!

So after four weeks we have found our characters and exploring their significant moments and how they came to belong!

Exploring Epiphany!

Exploring our inner freak

Sundays in Eumundi – that’s the place to be once again, as our creative process for Epiphany begins.  We have a terrific group of talented teens – aged 14-16 – once again from Caloundra through to Cooroy, guys as well as gals!

The frame for the process has been shared with participants and they are now exploring their characters and reasons for existing in the world ‘beyond’.  These explorations have included physical explorations, and considering some very theatrical forms and conventions.
We are aiming for performance dates in November… just sorting through everyone’s busy schedules at present before we book in the final dates.  It’s exciting though and we look forward to sharing more details as we progress!

Discover ‘Epiphany’

2Muse invites you to be part of our next project ‘Epiphany’, an innovative performance project that will combine old and new media, live performance and digitised.  We will commence the project with an audition and information session on Sunday 17 July at Eumundi.  We invite young people aged 14 years and over to come along and show us what they can do, read a poem, sing a song, show us your portfolio – share your creative passions with us.   This will be an informal audition process and information session.  We will then be devising and rehearsing on Sunday mornings with a creative development workshop also planned for the September school holidays.  The project will culminate with a performance at Nambour Civic Centre early December.  If you would like to come along on July 17 please register to let us know by filling in the online form.
